Year 8 Sports Leadership
27 Year 8 students put their leadership skills to test on Thursday 19th January as 120 Year 5 and 6 students came to Banbury Academy for an Inclusion Sportshall Athletics Festival. The events they ran included the continuous relay, the standing long jump and indoor javelin. It was a fantastic turn out with all of 8 of Banbury Academy’s cluster of primary schools taking part. The 13 teams were divided into reds and blues and rotated around a circuit of seven activities. Although the emphasis of the festival was fun and engagement, there was a competitive element with the top 3 girls' scores being added to the top 3 boys' scores at each station. The leaders did a great job of not only running the activities but also using their mental maths skills under pressure to work out the results. Amazingly, every child went home a winner as all the teams won an event! Some children were also crowned with special ‘passion’ awards for being really positive throughout the festival.
There was nothing but praise for the leaders from accompanying adults. A job well done! The leaders - Louis, George, Leo, Nyle, Kyran, Harry, James, Ben, Aaron, Tulaha, Samad, Maiauz, Myron, Christopher, Collette, Iris, Katy, Amy, Amie, Meagan, Brooke, Niamh and Kiya. Star leaders – Quasim, Cole and Ava.
